Canada Day Long Weekend Festivities
Calgary offers a variety of exciting events for the Canada Day long weekend, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy this weekend.
One of the main highlights is the celebration at Fort Calgary, which features performances, family-friendly activities and cultural displays. BOWNESSFEST
If you’re looking for a community festival atmosphere, BownessFest 2024 is a must-visit. This event features live music, local food trucks, a community BBQ, face painting and carnival games. This free festival takes place at Our Lady of Assumption School in the NW and runs from 10 AM to 9 PM.
CENTRAL LIBRARY
Families looking to spend the day downtown can also enjoy a variety of activities at the Central Library, including a special storytime session with Calgary Major Jyoti Gondek. Next door, the National Music Centre will be offering free admission for visitors to check out their exhibits and will host live music events. Nearby, Olympic Plaza will feature live performances by local musicians along with children’s activities and food trucks, providing a festive environment for all ages.
BAR U RANCH
If you’re looking to spend Canada Day outside of the city, head to Bar U Ranch National Historic Site in Longview. Discover the life of a ranching cowboy in the 1800s by riding in a horse-drawn wagon, exploring historic buildings and listening to campfire stories. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the many family-friendly activities! Bar U Ranch is open from 10 AM to 5 PM and admission is free on Canada Day. FIREWORKS
Calgary’s Canada Day celebrations will be capped off with a grand fireworks display from the Stampede grounds, which will be viewable from various locations in the city at approximately 11 PM. Great viewing locations include Fort Calgary, Scotsman’s Hill and Crescent Road but be prepared for crowds and limited parking options at these popular spots.
