Twilight Symphony in the Park
What we all Need: A Late Summer Sunset, A Big Urban Park, and The Calgary Phil.
We’ve all had the query—As a Calgarian, what do you love about your city? What follows is often a laundry list of all things weather (warm, in my case) related; tapas and rosé on Mercato’s patio, bobbing down the Elbow River on a floatie I spent too long inflating in a scorching hot parking lot, packing up the car and heading to the mountains for a day of hiking, and of course, Stampede!
For lovers of the arts, however, weather plays no factor. Be it the Alberta Ballet, live music at the King Eddy or, the sounds of our favourite orchestra, The Calgary Phil, Calgarians can dress up for a night and take in a performance in the comfort of the Jubilee or a cozy theatre.
Often the lure for a bittersweet last summer adventure, Labour Day long weekend signals a transition to cooler temperatures, warmer layers, and serious business.
And maybe the melodic sounds of a symphony washing over us in a park? On Sept 3rd, residents and visitors to Alpine Park are invited to take in our Twilight Symphony in the Park as the lush green lawn of Central Park sets the stage for a performance that is sure to lead us into the autumn season humming Moonlight Sonata.
Bring the fam, invite friends, make it an urban date night. Pull up a lawn chair or picnic blanket, wear your favourite outdoor-symphony-in-a-park outfit (of course there’s such a thing; think linen pants, your favourite cashmere sweater, that scarf you picked up in Le Marais and realized you had nowhere to wear it in Calgary… Now you do!) and join us as we host the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in Alpine Park.
Get there early, skip making dinner (‘cause who wants to cook on hump day?) and support one of our local food trucks, they’ll have you covered. Bring an umbrella—this is a Calgary ensemble, their music plays rain or shine. We can’t wait to have you!
